Gov't funding to upgrade your home’s hot water
Heating water for our homes creates the largest source of greenhouse gases being emitted from the average Australian household, making it the perfect target for your next home improvement. Upgrading your hot water heater to a renewable energy source like solar hot water can reduce or eliminate greenhouse emissions and deliver long-term cost savings to your household expenses.
Both the Federal and NSW State governments are offering rebates for hot water system upgrades and installations. The more your energy and water use is reduced by a new hot water system, the greater the government rebate. The combination of the two rebates means a significant reduction in installation costs for an eligible new hot water system:
- Under the Federal government scheme, the installation rebate comes in the form of small-scale technology certificates (STCs). The number of STCs a solar hot water installation is eligible for depends on its geographic location, installation date, and the amount of energy the new hot water system saves compared to the previous system.
- At the State level, the NSW Energy Savings Scheme (ESS) provides rebates via Energy Saving Certificates (ESCs). Again the value of the ESCs is determined by a number of factors like the efficiency of the new hot water system being installed and what type of system is being replaced.
